Brothers Matthew Rego, Michael Rego, and childhood friend Hank Unger grew up together in Cleveland, OH putting on shows in community theatres, high schools, and suburban basements. The three friends relocated to NYC in the early ’90s and in between working as actors, directors, and musicians, started their own commercial production company, The Araca Group, drawing inspiration from the “immigrant story” of the Regos’ paternal grandfather, Charlie Araca.
Charlie had traveled to Ellis Island almost 100 years earlier with nothing but a dream for a better life. Embodying his entrepreneurial spirit (Rego family legend has it Charlie won three hundred dollars shooting craps, and with that initial “investment,” started a fruit stand that would later evolve into a significant Midwest supermarket chain), the three partners began producing Off Broadway shows.
The Araca Group soon moved onto larger productions, and within a few years, became a Tony Award-winning Broadway production company. Today, The Araca Group is a vertically integrated theatrical production and brand activation company, with over 250 dedicated employees with offices in New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, London, and Sydney.
Araca is a Tony Award-winning theatrical production company, dedicated to developing, producing, and delivering theatrical content for audiences throughout the world. Broadway producing credits include Wicked, Urinetown, Disgraced, The Wedding Singer, A View From The Bridge, Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune, Lend Me a Tenor, Match, Rock of Ages, and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, and SpongeBob SquarePants the Musical.
Araca works closely with both new and established theatre, music and film and television studio partners to galvanize their brands – whether a new Broadway musical, arena music tour, or studio e-commerce web store. Each activation is carefully tailored to support an artist or brand’s marketing strategy, facilitate their audience’s engagement, generate significant income, and ultimately, ignite the entertainment experience.
